Surroundings
You’ll find us in the centre of Zumaia, a historical fishing town on the coast of Gipuzkoa, between Deba and Getaria. Surrounded by mountains and looking out onto the Bay of Biscay, a whole spectrum of green and blue colours will introduce you to the real Basque Country: its gastronomy, its old town, its 2 beaches, the San Telmo hermitage (world famous for being the setting of important scenes in the film Ocho apellidos vascos/A Spanish Affair) and the Flysch, from which our hotel takes its name. This is a formation left by erosion of the sea, in sheets of limestone and sandstone rock, not unlike a millefeuille. A wonderful display of nature worthy of visit and only a few metres from our hotel.
But our surroundings aren’t limited to Zumaia; we are only a short distance from emblematic coastal towns including Getaria (Balenciaga Museum), Zarautz (Basque surf capital), Mutriku (Galdona Palace), Deba (Ekain Cave) and, of course, Donostia-San Sebastian: the world capital of gastronomy and birthplace of the traditional San Sebastian pintxo, which also boasts a busy cultural agenda (International Film Festival, Jazz Festival, Classical Music Fortnight, etc.) and top-line tourist attractions: its 3 beaches, Mount Igeldo, Mount Urgull, its old town, the Kursaal Congress Centre, etc.
